What Is Amazon's Holiday Return Policy?

Amazon stretched its return window for the 2025 holidays. Most items bought November 1 to December 31 could go back until January 31, 2026, with one Apple exception.

Beyond the holiday window, Amazon offers free returns on most items delivered in the U.S., and the "FREE Returns" badge under the price confirms an item qualifies. For a full refund, the item should be in the same condition you received it: unused, with all the original accessories and packaging intact. To start, go to "Your Orders" on Amazon.com or in the Amazon app, pick the item and follow the instructions. Gift recipients get their refund as an Amazon.com gift card.

How do I return an Amazon gift without the giver's account?
Go to the Returns Center page in your Amazon account using a desktop browser and enter the 17-digit order number from the packing slip or digital gift receipt. This works only if the item was marked as a gift when it was ordered. If it was not, ask the giver for the digital gift receipt or contact customer service.
Where can I drop off an Amazon return?
Amazon has more than 10,000 drop-off locations, including FedEx Office, Whole Foods Market, Staples, Kohl's, The UPS Store and Rent-A-Center. Can the gift giver handle the return instead?
Yes. The giver can share the gift receipt by email from Your Orders using Share Gift Receipt, or return the item directly if they have it. A giver can choose a refund to a gift card or to the original payment method.

What to do

Keep the packing slip or digital gift receipt with every gift you hand out, and leave items unused with their accessories until you are sure. Check the "FREE Returns" badge before you buy anything you might send back.
