A home improver buys big and buys by season: a shed before winter, a tree before December, a heater when the first cold night comes. On our list, those are also the prices that move the most.
On October 1, 2026, Gazoobie listed 1,942 home and garden deals from 26 stores. We record the price of the 1,747 that list one once a day, and since August 7, 2026, 958 of them have changed price: 537 ended below the first price we saw, and 392 above it. That is more than half, where fewer than one in three pet or toy prices moved over the same weeks.
A holiday weekend is not the low point
Home prices on our list move in groups, often hundreds on the same day. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, the Thursday before Labor Day, 217 home and garden prices on our list went up and 1 went down. On September 25, 342 fell and 117 rose.
One 7.5-foot snow-flocked, pre-lit Christmas tree shows what that does to a single price. It cost $72.99 from August 11 to 13, $109.99 from August 14 to September 2, $159.99 from September 3 to 5, $124.99 until September 24, and $71.99 since September 25. The store's reference price stayed at $200.99 the whole time, so the tag read anywhere from 20% to 64% off.
A big metal shed did the same. An 11-by-13-foot one cost $599.99 from August 10 to 13, $706.99 on September 5, and has cost $444.99 since September 26. That is $262 between its high and low, a few weeks apart.
For both, the days just before Labor Day were the most expensive days in our record. So a sale weekend is not proof of a low price. Before a big buy, check the price for a week or two, and keep the number you see, not the percentage. Our discount guide has more checks.
Holiday decor: cheaper now than in August, so far
On October 1, 2026, we listed 103 holiday deals, from Halloween inflatables to pre-lit trees and wreaths, and 73 of them state a price. Of the 51 that changed price since August, 36 ended below the first price we saw and 12 ended above it.
That is a direction, not a forecast. Our record started in August, so it has not seen a holiday season, and we do not know what November and December bring.
Before the price, check the tree itself. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says to "look for the 'fire resistant' label on artificial trees" and to "never string together more than three sets of incandescent lights." Artificial trees are measured to the tip, so check the base width against your corner too. Our trees and holiday decor are in one section.
Heaters: we hold only a few, so compare widely
Heaters are thin on our list. On October 1, 2026, we held 8 room heaters and electric fireplaces, plus 4 tankless water heaters. Only 4 of those 12 changed price since August, and 3 of the 4 went up. That is too few to call a trend.
One 31-inch electric fireplace heater cost $42.99 on August 12 and 13, and $68.99 every day since August 14, marked 45% off. If a heater is on your list this fall, check other stores before you buy from ours.
Where it will sit matters as much as the price. The CPSC says to "keep portable heaters at least three feet away from drapes, furniture, bedding and other combustible materials" and to "plug electric space heaters directly into a wall outlet," never into an extension cord or power strip. It estimates that portable heaters were involved in an average of 1,600 fires a year from 2020 to 2022. If the only free outlet is behind the sofa, a cheaper heater does not fix that. The heaters on our list share a section with air conditioners and dehumidifiers.
Fall yard gear: price the whole job
We listed 54 deals on sheds, leaf blowers, snow shovels, firewood racks and lawn tools on October 1, and 32 of them changed price since August: 19 ended lower than we first saw and 9 ended higher.
Four cordless leaf blowers on our list each rose 25% at some point and then came back to where they started. Every one read 20% off the whole time, because the reference price rose with the price. The tag cannot show that; only the price can.
For a shed, the price on the tag is not the whole cost. Our prices come from the store's feed and leave out delivery, and sheds can ship by freight. Sheds also list outside dimensions, so the storage space inside is smaller, and it is worth checking whether a floor kit is included. Our sheds and yard tools are in one section.
How Gazoobie tags home improver deals
Gazoobie's AI scores deals and tags the ones it scores with the shopper types they suit. Home Improver is one of 12. On October 1, 2026, 1,686 of the 1,942 home and garden deals carried that tag.
The Home Improver deals page lists them, along with tools and gear from other categories. We score offers from store feeds that update once a day, and we do not test coupon codes.
Looking for the deals, not the history?
Gazoobie's AI reads thousands of live offers and surfaces only the ones worth buying, each labelled with who it suits.

Is Labor Day a good time to buy a shed or a Christmas tree?
Not in our record so far. For an 11-by-13-foot metal shed and a 7.5-foot pre-lit tree, the days from September 3 to 5, 2026 were the most expensive we recorded, and both cost far less by late September. We have one Labor Day on record, so treat that as one data point, not a rule.
Will Christmas trees get cheaper closer to December?
We do not know yet. Our daily price record started on August 7, 2026, so it has not seen a holiday season. So far, 36 of the 51 holiday decor items that changed price ended lower than we first saw them, and 12 ended higher.
What should I check before buying a space heater?
Where it will go. The CPSC says to keep portable heaters at least three feet away from drapes, furniture, bedding and other things that can burn, to plug electric space heaters directly into a wall outlet and never into an extension cord or power strip, and to turn heaters off when sleeping.
Why do so many home prices change on the same day?
We do not know the stores' reasons, and we will not guess. We only see the result in the feeds: on September 3, 2026, 217 home and garden prices on our list rose and 1 fell, and on September 25, 342 fell and 117 rose.
